Landsmeer Ridge is a unique retirement community that caters to individuals aged 62 and above. We offer a relaxed and carefree living environment featuring 36 Independent Living apartments and 28 Assisted Living apartments.
Our independent living apartments include one- and two-bedroom options, and they are located close to 34 attached garages available for rent. Our Assisted Living apartments include one-bedroom and studio options and are located near our health office.

Landsmeer Ridge is owned and operated by Orange City Area Health System. Landsmeer is designed to support and assist residents in maintaining an active, independent, and healthy lifestyle. The hallways have handrails on both sides, and the carpets do not have padding underneath them to promote better safety for those with unstable gait or who shuffle while walking. Each apartment has two urgent call stations, regular professional toe-trimming service, and annual flu shots are scheduled on-site. There is an awake staff on duty 24 hours a day, and the manager is an RN who can provide guidance regarding health concerns and answer questions.
If a resident needs to move to a different level of living assistance, they have priority admission at Prairie Ridge Care Center, located next door. Prairie Ridge Care Center is an 89-bed skilled nursing facility with an 11-bed memory care cottage.
Independent Living at Landsmeer
The Independent Living wing at Landsmeer Ridge comprises 36 apartments that have been thoughtfully designed for maximum comfort and privacy. Originally built with 20 apartments, it has been expanded twice due to high demand. There are four sizes of apartments available, each with its patio, individually controlled central heating/air conditioning, and emergency call stations. Although the apartments are unfurnished, they come with fully equipped kitchens that include a stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher (residents may choose to have it replaced with a matching cabinet-drawer unit), and garbage disposal. Furthermore, each apartment has a walk-in closet and two other closets. While every apartment has a designated space for a stackable washer/dryer unit, the Independent Living area also has two laundry rooms with two washers and dryers available to residents at no charge.
Assisted Living
The Assisted Living area of the building is specifically designed to offer residents independence with a little extra help. Two types of Assisted Living apartments are available - studio alcove and one bedroom - both carefully designed for freedom and convenience.
Each apartment features individually controlled central heating/air conditioning and emergency call stations. Though unfurnished, they have kitchenettes complete with a small refrigerator, sink, and microwave. Additionally, each apartment boasts two closets, with an additional storage cupboard provided for those with studio apartments down the hall.
The assisted living apartments provide a comfortable home environment with the support needed to remain independent and active. Residents can enjoy three nutritious meals daily, cable TV, wireless internet, hallway handrails, handicapped assistive features, weekly light housekeeping, weekly flat linen service, 24-hour awake staff, in-apartment emergency call transmitters, an RN in the building weekdays, scheduled transportation, and activities planned. Assistance with dressing, bathing, taking medication, bed-making, personal laundry, and general household tasks is also available.
Main Street
Upon entering Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, the Fireside Room welcomes you. This spacious living room hosts educational presentations, musical events, and wine and cheese gatherings and serves as a general hangout spot for visitors. The Treat Shoppe, a popular place among residents and guests, offers ice cream cones, popcorn, cappuccinos, coffee, and cold drinks. The Orange City Public Library visits monthly to replenish the library's books. Residents often read, work on jigsaw puzzles, or use the computers. If you need some pampering, the salon offers various services, from haircuts to washing and sets to perms. The private dining room, comfortably seating ten, is conveniently located for residents of both the Independent and Assisted living areas. You can reserve it to entertain guests and enjoy a served meal. Administration offices are easily accessible to tenants and visitors for needs, such as assistance with the local RIDES van, questions regarding local events, or registering an apartment repair need.
Daily Life at Landsmeer
Our community offers a range of activities to keep tenants active and engaged. There is something for everyone, from outings to plays, concerts, and parks to exercise classes, baking projects, and walking on our indoor and outdoor paths. Tenants can also enjoy riding our three-wheeled trikes, playing pool, shuffleboard, or horseshoes, doing puzzles, listening to speakers and entertainment, and playing games or watching movies. Ultimately, our tenants can choose how active or busy they want.
