Welcome Sophie Joy, our New Year Baby!

Stephanie and Matt Peters of Sioux Center were blessed with a special New Year's gift on January 2. Their little girl Sophie Joy entered the world at 8:22am weighing 7lbs 5oz. She is welcomed by big sister Katelyn, age 4, and big brother David, age 2.

As we celebrate with growing families throughout this coming year, we also reflect on all the little bundles of joy that we welcomed here at Orange City Area Health System in 2025. This past calendar year, 243 babies were born at Orange City Area Health System ... 128 girls and 115 boys. The smallest baby weighed in at 4lbs 13oz, and the biggest babe was 10lbs 5oz.

The names the parents gave their little ones was quite diverse, with very few "repeats" of baby names. But the most "common" names in 2025 were:

Girls: Cora and Lydia (with three each), and Amelia, Auden/Audyn, Aurora, Chloe, Hadassah, Haley, Hannah, Joya, Leighton/Leyton, Lyla/Lylah, and Quinn with two each.

Boys: Beau (with three), and Dallas, Elijah, Emmett, Oliver, and Walker with two each.

The babies' families who trusted us with their birth care this past year are from 45 different communities in the tri-state area: Akron, Albert City, Alburnett, Alton, Archer, Aurelia, Boyden, Calumet, Cherokee, Cleghorn, George, Gleason, Granville, Harris, Hartley, Hawarden, Hinton, Hospers, Hudson, Hull, Ireton, Kingsley, Le Mars, Marcus, Maurice, Merrill, Orange City, Paullina, Primghar, Remsen, Rock Rapids, Rock Valley, Salix, Sanborn, Sheldon, Sibley, Sioux Center, Sioux City, Spencer, Struble, Utica, Vermillion, Watkins, Westfield, Woodbine.
