Orange City Area Health Foundation receives grant from Variety - the Children’s Charity of Iowa

The Orange City Area Health Foundation has received a grant from Variety - the Children’s Charity of Iowa to fund the purchase of a Panda Warmer for their Birth Center, as well as 504 Halo SleepSacks.

Orange City Area Health System (OCAHS) is a nonprofit, comprehensive health system in Northwest Iowa. Serving over 18,000 patients annually, OCAHS is a top 100 critical access hospital that has been recognized by the Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s Best Hospitals in two categories: Obstetrics and Patient Experience.

The Variety grant consisted of two parts: funding that will be used to purchase a third Panda Warmer; and 504 Halo SleepSacks. The purchase of the panda warmer will ensure OCAHS has a warmer for each labor and delivery room in the event three babies are born within two hours of each other. The warmer can operate as a procedural table for circumcisions, frenectomies, and 24-hour newborn testing. Gifting Halo SleepSacks to families of newborns will help encourage safe sleep practices by preventing families from over-layering their babies to keep warm or putting their babies to sleep with loose blankets in their cribs.

“Obstetric care is a very important offering at Orange City Area Health System. To receive assistance in doing so with equipment such as a panda warmer and the provision of a sleep sack adds to our ability to offer a safe and quality experience. We are grateful for Variety’s recognition of the importance of this service!” - Marty Guthmiller, CEO
