Prediabetes class offered March 29 in Orange City

Concerned about prediabetes? Considered borderline diabetic?

Orange City Area Health System is offering a Prediabetes Class on Tuesday, March 29, from 5-7pm in the lower level meeting rooms at the health system main campus at 1000 Lincoln Circle SE in Orange City. The class is taught by Shannon Beaty, RN — diabetes educator and cardiac rehabilitation nurse manager for the health system — and Colleen King, RD. Prediabetes is a condition in which one’s blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. Without intervention, prediabetes is likely to become type 2 diabetes, according to Beaty. “Progression to type 2 diabetes isn’t inevitable, however,” she explains. “This class will help you learn how to prevent diabetes.” The cost to attend the class is $25, which includes a meal from the Puddlejumper Grille. Pre-registration is required by calling 737-5289 or online at ocHealthSystem.org, classes and events.
