Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community: Expanding
Adding 12 independent living apartments at Orange City senior care campus
Orange City Area Health System announced plans for expansion of Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, with construction expected to begin this spring. Landsmeer Ridge, located on 13 acres of the health system’s senior care campus on the north edge of Orange City, was built in 1999. It consists of 24 independent living apartments and 28 assisted living apartments. The expansion will add a total of 12 new independent living apartments, 10 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom units.
“Landsmeer Ridge has served the needs of seniors (age 62 and above) in our region with quality independent living arrangements without the hassles and expense of single home ownership,” reported Marty Guthmiller, CEO of Orange City Area Health System. “Our desire with this expansion is not only to help meet the demand, but also to ‘free up’ much needed housing in our community, which helps provide for the overall economic health of the region we serve.”
Landsmeer Ridge, which is owned and operated by the health system, is “dedicated to assisting its tenants in maintaining an active, independent, and healthy lifestyle,” according to Char Ten Clay, Director of Senior Care. The “home for seniors” features spacious sitting areas, pleasant and professional dining services, an ice cream parlor, hair salon, library with computers, exercise room, whirlpool, billiards room, and a “motel room” available for tenants’ guests to rent for brief stays. With the addition of the 12 new apartments, the dining area will be expanded, and a new seven-stall garage constructed for tenants’ vehicles.
According to Guthmiller, Orange City Area Health Foundation is financing this project, which will include a USDA rural economic development loan. Expected completion of the addition is early 2016.
