Home Delivered Meals

The Home Delivered Meals program is available to residents of Orange City and Alton as a community project operated through the cooperative efforts of Orange City Area Health System and local volunteers. Volunteers deliver hospital-prepared frozen meals to area residents for a nominal fee twice a week.

When can I get meals delivered?

Home Delivered Meals are available for delivery on Mondays and Fridays. You may order as many meals as you would like from an order sheet. There is no limit!

How are my meals delivered?

Home Delivered Meals are delivered by volunteers from our area churches between 11am and 12noon. If you need them put in your fridge or need help with setting up the meal, they are more than happy to do that. If they don’t receive an
answer when they knock at your door, they will call into the house.

If there is still no answer, they have been instructed to check to make sure you have not fallen or been hurt. We want to be sure you are safe!

What do the meals cost?

The cost is $3.00 per meal. Billing is once a month after the meals are received. You will receive a bill at the beginning of the next month. You may send the check back with a delivery volunteer or mail the check to us.

Who prepares the meals?

Meals are prepared by the hospital dietary staff, following the scheduled menu system that is also prepared for patients and staff. There are 10 popular meals and many sides to choose from. The meals are made with quality ingredients by our excellent cooks, and are low salt and nutritious. Meals are quick-frozen after preparation, so you may thaw and heat them in your microwave as you like.

Can I cancel meal delivery?

You may change or cancel at any time simply by calling Pam De Haan, Meal Coordinator at 737-8954 . Just let us know the day of – or call before you need to cancel. If you are admitted to Orange City Area Health System, ask your nurses to call us.

How can I sign up for “Meals on Wheels?”

Contact Pam De Haan, Meal Coordinator at 712-737-8954. She will be happy to get you registered and answer your questions about the registration form, which you will be required to fill out. Billing questions can also be directed to her.
